Lake Charles Chapter

The Krewe du Les Cajuns du CFMA is a fun loving organization consisting of Cajun and non-Cajuns that have joined together to keep our French heritage alive with a celebration of Mardi Gras through Cajun music, Cajun dance and Cajun food.

All of the costumes are designed and made by our members and represent the costumes of Cajun Mardi Gras of years gone by.

The Krewe du Les Cajuns du CFMA owns a 40 foot float which has been decorated in white petals with purple green and gold lights. Each year the float is trimmed with the crest of a Mardi Gras Captain on horseback and represents the way that the Cajun French people celebrated Mardi Gras when they first moved to this area.

Every year the krewe designates a King and Queen to reign over the Mardi Gras Ball. The King, Queen and krewe also participate in 12th Night and the Mardi Gras Gala at the Lake Charles Civic Center. Through our participation in local events and celebrations we assist the Lake Charles Chapter of Cajun Music in advertising our organization and hopefully assist in attracting new members.

The Krewe du Les Cajuns du CFMA was established approximately sixteen years ago and have between 25 & 30 members. We are unable to grow much larger than our current size as our float is not large enough to accommodate more than that number of people.

We also have eight women, three that are krewe members, which each year hand quilts a decorative quilt for us to raffle at our annual festival. This quilt is the only fundraiser and is the sole support of our krewe.
