In March 1988, the Cajun French Music Association French
Lake Charles Chapter formed a dance troupe called LES BON
TEMPS DANSEURS DU CFMA, to perform at the first Le Cajun Music
Awards show in Lafayette, LA. The Le Cajun Festival was
established to honor Cajun musicians, DJ’s and Song Writers
and since our chapter was a part of this heritage it was only
fitting that we participate. The Les Bon Temps Danseurs du
CFMA have continued to perform at not only our local functions
but attend and perform at all or most of our other nine
chapter festivals and functions. Our goal is to promote our
heritage which is traditional Cajun music, dance and culture.
The dance troupe offers FREE Cajun dance classes for
traditional Waltz & Two-step to anyone interested in learning,
and has offered this service since its’ inception in 1988.
They also travel to local schools, nursing homes and festivals
from San Antonio, TX., New Orleans, LA. to perform their
traditional dances. They also work with the Southwest
Louisiana Visitors and Convention Bureau in Lake Charles, LA.
to promote our Cajun dancing.
One of the highlights of the troupe was to perform for the
Arts & Humanities at Central School in Lake Charles in 1997
and 1999 in the production of Louisiana Choral Foundation’s,
Suite Louisiane. They were also very proud to perform for the
Banner Series at McNeese University in 2002 and are always
willing to help, perform or teach our Cajun dance whenever
called upon to do so.
